What's Inside LinuxDoors
Every piece below is compiled from real upstream source, package by package -- not repackaged from another distribution.
The Foundation
Everything else in LinuxDoors sits on top of this -- all compiled from real upstream source, no binary blobs from another distro.
Linux Kernel 7.2
Configured and compiled from real kernel source (not a distro-patched fork) -- boot-critical drivers built in, everything else modular. Includes real, working sched_ext support with two live BPF CPU schedulers (scx_bpfland, scx_lavd).
systemd
PID 1, service management, udev, logind, networkd/resolved -- the same systemd stack real production distributions run, built from its own real source tree.
XFCE4 Desktop
A full, real X11 + Mesa + GTK3 desktop -- lightdm login, panel, window manager, file manager, terminal -- lightweight by choice, not by missing pieces.
Prefer something other than XFCE4? A full MATE desktop is on the ISO too — just pick it at the login screen. GNOME 48 is available from the Packages page as a complete, working desktop: GNOME Shell 48.5, Mutter 48.5, GJS, gnome-session, gnome-keyring and Evolution Data Server, on GTK4 and libadwaita, all compiled from real GNOME source (about forty packages in total, including their own dependency stack). It is not bundled in the ISO — install it like any other package and it adds “GNOME on Wayland” and “GNOME on Xorg” to the login screen. A KDE Plasma 6.7.4 package set is also on the Packages page and now runs as a real desktop session: Plasma Workspace, plasma-desktop, System Settings, the Plasma library stack, KScreen, PowerDevil, Milou and the Breeze theme, all compiled from real KDE source against LinuxDoors’ own Qt 6.11 and KDE Frameworks 6.29 (about thirty packages). It is not bundled in the ISO — install it like any other package and it adds a “Plasma (X11)” entry to the login screen. The X11 session (KWin on X11) is fully working; the Wayland compositor is not built yet, as KWin’s Vulkan backend needs a GCC 15 / std::expected toolchain that LinuxDoors has not moved to.
Browsers
Two full, independent browser engines, both compiled from real source -- not stubs, not WebViews.
Firefox (ESR)
The real, official Mozilla Firefox, built from source on the Extended Support Release track -- full add-ons, sync, and DevTools included.
ungoogled-chromium
A real Chromium build with Google's own tracking and telemetry stripped out -- roughly 56,000 compile targets, built entirely from source with LinuxDoors' own from-scratch Clang and Rust toolchains.
Creative & Productivity
Real, well-known applications -- not cut-down clones.
GIMP
The full GNU Image Manipulation Program, built with its complete real dependency chain (GEGL, babl, libmypaint and more) -- layers, filters, and real image editing.
Audacity
A real, complete multi-track audio editor and recorder, built with its official Conan-managed dependency chain.
LinuxUltraOffice
A deep-rebranded, real LibreOffice-derived suite -- Writer, Calc, and Impress today, with Draw/Base/Math already compiled in and coming to the menu next.
Native LinuxDoors Tools
Written specifically for this distribution, not carried over from BLFS.
LinuxDoors Package Manager
A Synaptic-style native app -- browse, install, or remove any package, precompiled or built fresh from real source, right on the desktop.
LinuxDoors Installer
A guided graphical installer -- partitions a real disk, copies the live system, and installs GRUB, no terminal required.
Make Secure LinuxDoors
One click locks SSH down to localhost-only and turns off the SSH service entirely -- the real default state of a fresh install.
Manage SSH LinuxDoors
The companion tool for when you do want SSH back -- reopen it, change the port, or manage a real per-user, per-IP allow list.

Toolchains built from scratch so everything above them could be too.
GCC 14 & the GNU toolchain
Binutils, GCC, glibc, and the full core userland -- the actual compiler everything else in LinuxDoors was built with.
Rust & LLVM/Clang
A real, from-source Rust toolchain and LLVM/Clang build -- what Firefox, ungoogled-chromium, and LinuxDoors' own sched_ext schedulers all compile against.
