LinuxDoors 1.50
LinuxDoors now ships libglvnd, the standard way Linux programs reach OpenGL. AppImages that expect it -- KDE's Kdenlive and Kate among them -- now run on LinuxDoors, where before they stopped at once with a missing-library error.
pkg update is clean↓Get it
sudo pkg update sudo pkg upgrade
This installs libglvnd and the new Mesa. Restart afterwards so every program picks them up.
GOpenGL through libglvnd
Linux programs built elsewhere -- AppImages especially -- expect the vendor-neutral OpenGL libraries from libglvnd (libOpenGL.so.0, libGLX.so.0). LinuxDoors' Mesa provided its own OpenGL libraries instead, so those programs could not start. Mesa now plugs in behind libglvnd, the same arrangement as on Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.
| Package | Version | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| libglvndNew | 1.7.0 | Provides libGL, libEGL, libGLESv1_CM, libGLESv2, libOpenGL and libGLX, and passes each call to the right driver. Built as the GLFS book describes, with its EGL device patch. |
| mesa | 26.2.5-1 | Rebuilt with glvnd support: it now supplies libGLX_mesa and libEGL_mesa behind libglvnd. Same library names for programs (libGL.so.1, libEGL.so.1), so existing software keeps working; it also now includes the VA-API video drivers. |
▦Kdenlive and Kate AppImages
Both now start on LinuxDoors. Kate needs nothing else. Kdenlive's AppImage is built by KDE to play sound only through PulseAudio, and it can't open its video preview without it -- so on LinuxDoors install and start PulseAudio once:
sudo pkg install pulseaudio pulseaudio --start
To have PulseAudio start at every login, run systemctl --user enable --now pulseaudio.socket instead of the second line. The native kdenlive package works too.
✓Package manager: never downgrades
pkg upgrade used to treat any difference between your version and the catalog's as an upgrade, so in the brief moment when a package was newer on a computer than in the catalog it could install the older one. It now only ever moves to a newer version (0.84.1-2 beats 0.84.1-1, 24.22.0-1 beats 24.22.0). This fix is part of the ISO; installed systems get it by installing v1.50.
✓How it was tested
The v1.50 ISO was booted in a virtual machine in BIOS and UEFI mode, then on a desktop with both a plain and a 3D-accelerated virtual graphics card.
- PassedBoots to the desktop in BIOS and UEFI mode with 0 failed services;
pkg updatereports nothing to update. - PassedlibGL, libEGL, libOpenGL and libGLX come from libglvnd and reach Mesa; programs get the llvmpipe or virgl renderer as before.
- PassedKdenlive 26.08.2 AppImage starts, imports a video and shows its preview monitors (with PulseAudio running).
- PassedKate AppImage starts and opens a file.
- PassedPdfCraft, PhotoCraft and Warp Engine Visualizer behave exactly as on v1.49.
- PassedNo missing libraries beyond the ones v1.49 already had; personal-data check clean.
