CARD DESCRIPTION (the one line the store shows under the name)

The maze chase, in flat 2D and three kinds of 3D -- with a maze editor
     to build your own.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 DESCRIPTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A maze, four ghosts, a field of pellets, and Mrs. PacWoman with the flower
in her hair. Eat every pellet, take a power pellet when the ghosts close in
and turn the chase around, and grab the bonus fruit as it rolls past.

Then turn the camera. The same game plays in four views, and you can switch
between them at any moment, even in the middle of a level:

Classic 2D the whole maze, flat, the way the arcade showed it
3D Chase (keys turn) right behind her, down at maze level: left and
right turn her, up keeps going, down turns around
3D Chase (screen keys) the same view, but up always means "up the screen"
3D Overhead a tilted three-quarter view of the whole maze

In the 3D views, hold the right mouse button and drag to swing the camera
round, roll the mouse wheel to zoom, and middle-click to put it back. The
walls rise, the pellets glow, and a small map in the corner shows where
the ghosts are while you are down in the corridors.

Every pellet is zero calories -- and so is every piece of fruit. A low-cal
diet: the counter at the top keeps track, and it always says 0 kcal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 THE GHOSTS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Four of them, each with a mind of its own:

BLAZE chases you -- straight at you, all the time
ROSIE cuts you off -- aims for where you are about to be
FROST flanks you -- works with Blaze to close the other side
PEACH keeps her distance -- bold far away, shy up close

Eat a power pellet and they turn blue and run; catch them for 200, 400,
800 and 1,600 points, and watch their eyes race home to the pen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 TWO LOOKS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Classic Arcade: blue neon walls, black corridors, square-wave sound -- the
look of the era. Modern: soft violet walls, glowing pellets, rounder
shapes and gentler light. Press C to switch, any time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 THE MAZES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arcade mazes four hand-designed boards in the arcade style
Hand-drawn maze (as1) a maze drawn by hand, on paper, then built for
                           the game
Random maze every level a brand-new maze on every level, never the same
                           twice
Classic generated mazes made by the game's own maze builder
Modern mazes a second generated set
Mixed takes turns between Arcade, Classic and Modern
My mazes the ones you build in the Maze Editor

Every random maze is checked before you see it: one pellet wide
everywhere, mirrored left and right, no dead ends, no long straight
corridors, a power pellet in each corner, two tunnels, and a pellet on
every square you can walk on. A maze that fails is thrown away and
 another one made.

Random shapes: turn it on and the random mazes are built from L, T, plus,
square and line shapes at random spots and turns -- T's in the middle of
the map as well as the sides. The plus has its own on/off switch.

Pick a random maze to play: a screen where you click "New maze" as many
times as you like -- with or without shapes -- until one looks right, go
back to one you skipped, then press Play. Keep the ones you like in the
 Maze Editor with one click.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE MAZE EDITOR -- BUILD YOUR OWN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Press E on the title screen, or pick Maze editor from the menu, and the
whole board is yours. It is built to be as easy as drawing:

Draw hold the left mouse button and drag. Right-drag erases
                 back to a pellet path.
Tools Wall, Pellet path, Empty path, Power pellet, Tunnel, and
                 the Shape stamp.
Shape stamp L, T, plus, square and line, as solid two-tile walls.
A yellow outline shows exactly where it will land; Space
or the mouse wheel turns it, F flips it, G makes it small
or large -- and turning the plus a quarter makes it an X.
Left-click stamps it, right-click erases the same shape.
Mirror on by default: draw on one side and the other side
follows, so every maze comes out balanced. M turns it off.
Tunnels click a row with the Tunnel tool and both edges open --
walk off one side, come back on the other. Blue arrows
show every tunnel; red ones warn of a row open on one
                 side only.
Colours eight wall colours and eight fill colours, per maze.
Start over from an empty board, from any of the four Arcade mazes,
or from a brand-new random maze -- plain or made of
shapes. One click, and Ctrl+Z puts yours back.
Undo / redo Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y, as far back as you like.

While you draw, the Check panel keeps an eye on it: pellets that can't be
reached show red, dead ends show orange, and when it's right it simply
says "Ready to play!". The ghost pen and the start spot are protected, so
nothing you draw can trap the ghosts or Mrs. PacWoman.

Press T to test-play the maze straight from the editor, and Esc to come
back to it. Four maze slots, saved automatically as you draw -- there is
 no Save button to forget.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 THE REST OF IT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bonus fruit: cherry, strawberry, orange, pretzel, apple, pear and banana,
worth more as the levels go up. It rolls in through a tunnel, wanders the
maze and leaves through a tunnel if you don't catch it -- or, if you
prefer, it can sit still below the pen (Bonus fruit, in the options).

High scores: a proper hall of fame, entered with three letters or your
full name, with its own fanfare (which can be turned off).

Sound: every noise is made by the game itself as it plays -- the chomp,
the siren, the blue-ghost warble, the fanfare -- not recordings. M turns
it off. It plays through whatever your desktop already uses (PipeWire,
PulseAudio or ALSA), and on a machine with no sound it plays silently.

Everything is drawn in software, without OpenGL, so it runs in a remote
desktop such as X2Go, on a laptop without a graphics card, and in a
virtual machine. The window resizes freely; F11 is fullscreen.

P pauses, O opens the options, H shows the help. Settings, mazes and
 scores live in ~/.config/3d_mrs_pacwoman/.

RUNNING IT -- NOTHING TO INSTALL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Python, Qt and PySide6 all travel inside the AppImage -- nothing on the
machine is used and nothing on the machine can conflict with it.

     chmod +x MrsPacWoman.AppImage
     ./MrsPacWoman.AppImage

LinuxDoors has FUSE (since v1.18), so there it simply runs like on any
other distribution. On a system without FUSE:

     ./MrsPacWoman.AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run

or use linuxdoors-run-appimage, which unpacks it once rather than on every
launch. On LinuxDoors it is also a package: sudo pkg install mrs-pacwoman
